36 Year Work Anniversary Approaches For JCB Volkswagen Staff Member Angie

26/01/2022

This morning we had a coffee break chat with Angie Sandford, one of our longest serving members of staff, who is due to celebrate 36 years as a Sales Administrator with Volkswagen in March.

Originally starting in 1986 with Euro Charing Volkswagen/Audi - Angie witnessed the brands splitting to separate buildings and moved across with Volkswagen to their new premises on Orbital Park, Ashford – it being the first motor company represented on the Park in the early 1990s. JCB took over the site over 20 years ago.

Angie has loved working in the car industry all this time. Originally working for a small, independent garage in Langley, she took a career break to have children and returned to an estate agency in Charing. When she heard of the opportunity to return to the car industry, Angie applied to the Volkswagen dealership and was delighted to be successful.

Has Angie seen many changes over the years? “Yes”, she said, “a tremendous number of changes!” Mainly in the computerisation of systems and the increase in administrative tasks related to enhancing the customer experience. Back in 1986 all that was needed was a typed invoice and a tax disc and the car was ready for handover! Angie’s shorthand skills are no longer required, but her keyboard skills are invaluable. Systems for recording sales, warranties, service plans, accessories, roadside assistance, insurance and history checks are all required and offer the customer a greater package for peace of mind when buying their new or used car.

“The business has grown much bigger too. However, it has still retained a family feel.” Angie has stayed with the business because she enjoys the team spirit and family atmosphere. “Everyone is helpful and friendly and there is a good team spirit, there’s no ‘Monday morning feeling’, it’s enjoyable to come to work.”

Angie has been able to fit in having a family with her working life and they feature strongly in her leisure time too. Working part-time to accommodate school years and later returning to full-time work, Angie enjoys being able to be part of the Volkswagen team.

What is the secret to her success? Any advice to young people starting out in the car industry? “Being willing to learn new things, get on with people and be a team-player, be helpful to others and adapt to change – take everything in your stride.” These wise words have certainly worked for Angie and we are delighted she is to celebrate 36 years with Volkswagen Cars this year.
