The all-electric ID.5 from Volkswagen is built on the modular electric drive matrix, or MEB, developed by Volkswagen to be the basis of many of the group's electric vehicles, the ID.5 is the first crossover SUV in the all-electric range.
Its sporty yet elegant design envelops generous interior space, full connectivity and up-to-the-minute driver assistance systems.
The ID.5 and ID.5 GTX both have an elegant and muscular shape and the GTX, being the sportier of the two, comes with added performance and all-wheel drive.
Exempt from low emission and congestion charge zones, the all-electric ID.5 SUV Coupé is an economical option.
The ID.5 will be capable of charging up to 135 kW (DC) - equating to 62 miles - in only 7 minutes. Over-the-air updates and natural voice control make the ID.5 a high-tech, futuristic vehicle. It has a panoramic sunroof as standard allowing an airy and light feel to driver and passengers.
An optional trailer bracket swivels out electrically by button control and can tow loads of up to 750kg (unbraked) or up to 1,200kg (braked, with 8% gradient). Amazingly versatile.
Inside you have an ambient lighting option and an augmented reality head-up display. This means you can have your navigation information displayed directly onto the windscreen in front of you, without having to take your eyes off the road. You can also co-ordinate it with the voice assistant to communicate with the navigation system. Music streaming is fully integrated too.
Other high-tech features include:
With a low centre of gravity and electric motors, the Volkswagen ID.5 has great performance. All-electric motors produce exceptional and quickly responsive torque for fast acceleration. The car sits lower as the battery is built into the floor of the body and this gives a more dynamic drive. Its range is exceptional for this size of electric vehicle - up to 335 miles on a single charge, and 308 miles for the ID.5 GTX.
This dual-motor all-wheel drive version of the Volkswagen ID.5 distributes power evenly to all four wheels for maximum traction. The drive is surprisingly quiet.
Volkswagen aspire to be the most desirable brand of sustainable mobility. Along with its siblings, the ID.3 and ID.4, the ID.5 will be net carbon neutral. This comes about by reduction or avoidance of CO2 use in production. For example, the use of green electricity both in battery cell manufacturing and in production. Unavoidable CO2 emissions from production to delivery to the customer, which are determined with the help of the specific eco-balance, are offset by certified climate protection projects. It's all part of the Way to Zero initiative from Volkswagen.
