Volkswagen's national partnership with Pod Point charging and Tesco stores has produced an exciting development.
Electric vehicle (EV) owners at 100 stores around the UK are now able to charge their electric car batteries while shopping.
Research has shown that the average time spent in a supermarket in the UK was around 50 minutes per week.
The partnership means electric car owners who plug in their vehicles could get around 22.5 miles of free charging from the 7kW points during that 50-minute period – enough time to do the weekly shop.
Over a whole year this works out at 1,170 miles – the equivalent of driving from London to Rome for free! This is not just for Volkswagen car owners, it is accessible to any EV car owner to take advantage of.
The partnership is part of Volkswagen’s drive to boost e-mobility and make electric cars more affordable for millions of people.
Production of the new model electric car, the ID.3, is entirely carbon-neutral, while all electricity used to charge cars at Tesco comes from renewable sources.
