What Is The Motability Car Scheme?

The scheme is a national one offered in car dealerships throughout the country in conjunction with the government disability allowance schemes.
It allows those eligible to have a brand new car every 3 years by leasing from a main dealer. It gives you independence and mobility with ease.

Could I Be Eligible For A Motability Car?

Those in receipt of one of the following allowances can swap this allowance payment for a monthly lease on a car, van or adapted vehicle of their choice.

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

What Motability Car Can I Choose?

You can choose any make or model of eligible vehicle which includes pretty much the whole model range the JCB Group offer, with only a few exceptions. Whether it’s a small city car like the Volkswagen up!, or the popular Golf; a small people carrier like the Citroën Berlingo, a spacious 7 seater like the ŠKODA Kodiaq or a roomy sportswagon like the Kia Ceed - our range of models has something for everyone.

An initial rental payment is required, followed by monthly payments/swaps of allowance for 3 years. At the end of the agreement the car can be exchanged for a new one. You are usually entitled to metallic paint and parking sensors on the model you choose.

If you currently own a car you may be able to part exchange it to help with the cost of a bigger advance payment.

What About Servicing, Maintenance And Motability Insurance?

For the duration of the agreement, you are entitled to free servicing and repairs, roadside assistance, road tax and motability insurance. Tyre and windscreen repairs are also included. The only additional cost to you is the fuel.

Can I Claim For Somebody Else?

Depending on your situation you could receive a Motability Scheme car on behalf of someone else. For example, a child that receives the allowance or a relative or someone you care for who is unable to drive. The Motability vehicle can have up to 2 named drivers.

What About Adaptations?

If you need adaptations in order to drive the vehicle, such as pedal adjustments or steering wheel modifications, then usually this is included and carried out for you before vehicle delivery. The dealership can arrange this for you. Some adaptations are chargeable and can include changes to allow easier access or storage of aids such as wheelchairs.

How Much Do Motability Cars Cost?

Depending on the make, model and trim level you choose, there will be an advance payment and then a monthly allowance payment. Many models in the ranges The JCB Group offer start at nil advance payment and take a percentage of the weekly allowance, not necessarily all of it. Larger models with higher specifications will attract a larger advance payment and probably all of the weekly allowance.
