ADAC testers have given the Volkswagen ID.3 a glowing report after 4 years of endurance testing. ADAC is the German Automobile Club, known for its rigorous testing of vehicles for things such as safety. ADAC is the largest automobile association in Europe.
Engineers at the Test and Technology Centre in Landsberg am Lech in Germany, covered more than 100,000 miles (160,000 kilometres) in an ID.3 Pro S before praising the vehicle’s sustainability and low maintenance.
The ID.3’s high-voltage battery still had a net capacity of 91% following the test, showing no weaknesses at the end of its warranty period.
The ADAC testers did not go easy on the battery. To reach the 160,000 kilometres as quickly as possible, rapid charging stations were used for more than 40% of the charging sessions.
Contrary to what is recommended, the vehicle was also left at the charging station with a 100% charge level between test drives, sometimes over several days.
A series of software updates, received during the testing period, significantly improved power consumption over short distances and in winter temperatures from zero to five degrees centigrade.
ADAC testers also highlighted how the car’s body and chassis remained in good condition, despite the high mileage.
Martin Sander, member of the Volkswagen Board of Management responsible for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, said: “The result shows the impressive quality of our ID. models even after covering many kilometres.
“A high battery capacity of over 90% after 160,000 kilometres confirms that our ID. models are also very attractive as used cars and continue to meet the requirements of our customers.”
Every Volkswagen all-electric vehicle comes with a warranty for up to 8 years or 100,000 miles from point of first registration (whichever comes first), to ensure your battery retains 70% of its original capacity. This warranty is available from new and can be passed on to future owners.
