Volkswagen's MEB Platform Wins Top Technology Award

Volkswagen has been awarded the Porsche Prize by the Vienna University of Technology for the development of the modular electric drive matrix (MEB).

The internationally renowned title has been awarded for pioneering research and development in automotive engineering since 1977.

The award recognises that with the MEB, Volkswagen has brought the platform concept into a new period of mobility.

Thanks to a focus on pure electric drive and usability for vehicles of different classes, the platform offers economies of scale, reducing the cost of e-mobility and accelerating the transition to zero-emission transport.

The MEB is crucial to Volkswagen’s ACCELERATE brand strategy. By 2030, Volkswagen aims to generate at least 70 per cent of its revenue in Europe from all-electric cars.

The modular electric drive matrix now joins the ranks of previous prize winners, such as the anti-lock braking system by Mercedes-Benz (1981), the quattro drive by Audi (1983) and the side airbag by Volvo (1995).

Showing that the Volkswagen Group are at the forefront of automobile technology!

The ID.3 is the first car in the Volkswagen range to be built on this platform. Give it a test drive and see what you think!
